I recommend the novel "Pachinko" written by Min Jin Lee, who is a Korean American.

This novel describes the life of Jainch (Korean Japanese) in the Japanese colonial period.
Their lives, spanning four generations, are both miserable and hopeful and show in detail what kind of life they have lived.

This novel was also made into a drama (Apple TV), so you can also communicate with the novel through drama. (Seasons 1 and 2, not finished)
